It’s hard for some of us to believe that we aren’t this specific emotion that we think makes us who we are. We’re not always happy, we’re not mad and we’re not always sad either. This emotion that we exude to the world does not represent us in any way. What is representation anyway? It’s how everything internal is interpreted and judged by all that is external. We like to validate ourselves through this externality, yearning for positive feedback. We need this positive feedback, to deny ourselves and the fact that we have this dark side. This unhealthy, negativity that lives inside of us. We like to believe that we’re the only ones that have it, that we’re alone and this is our battle. On our social pursuits, if we are unable to be these happy people, then “we’re just not being ourselves”. We can’t show people that we’re anything other than that. Because if people don’t see that we’re happy all the time, they’re gonna start assuming that we’re sad or maybe even depressed. And that’s where insecurity comes in, when we believe that our “dark side” is vulnerable to the external. When we are unhappy with what we’re emitting to the world, and this part of us that we keep tucked in is exposed. When we start denying the moon that lives inside of all of us, letting only the sun be the one that we allow others to see. Luckily, the solution is simple. We must accept that we have this side to us, we must accept that others do too. We must accept that the sun is not always shining, and that sometimes the moon must come out. We must accept that we aren’t supposed to feel a specific emotion for a prolonged amount of time, and that it’s OK to reach out to others about it. Because while we think they may not understand, they do, because they have it too. We ALL have bad days, and it’s perfectly normal to talk about it, and to BE sad. We don’t have to be happy for anyone else other than ourselves, and we can’t be happy if we’re always avoiding sadness. Stay true to yourself, and be honest. Even if it means you have to be vulnerable. Our sun must come down eventually to let the moon shine, so we gotta let it shine.
